JUST MOVING ON-40

Well, all this education and knowledge has no meaning until we realise the core fundamental behind it.We as humans have always been social and probably this social cohesion has been the reason why we have been so successful as a species on this planet. The bonding between humans and hence the interdependence seems essential as well as logical if we have to function as a collective unit comprising of every individual on this planet.

Now as we study, first at school and then at college there is a certain amount of discrimination involved at almost every point of life.I mean first at school we have divisions between students based on their percentage then we have the divisions based on the various non academic aspects of oneself.Whether the discrimination exists or not is not the question, although the magnitude may vary from person to person and from place to place. As a student we are expected to excel in almost every field, parents want their children to be all rounders.Their child must be good in music classes,he/she must be good at the sports academy and obviously the compulsory thing is that the child must score at least 90%.This 90% culture has gripped almost everyone. And we have children as little as 9 years toiling through 17 hours a day!Yes it is true that only the excellent are awarded with various luxuries of life but then are we realising the harmful effects of this blind race? What if someone is not good at his studies?I'm concerned about the student who despite working hard doesn't manage to get 90+.Is he supposed to be discarded just like rotten apples are discarded from the basket? Are they not worthy humans?I've met a lot of people who are anyways good but just for some reason or the other don't make it among the elites of the classroom.I myself was never fascinated by the kind of show those toppers present in the classrooms.Yeah it is usual sweeping kind of observation that those who work hard will definitely get there, but I don't see any achievement in there.

Is percentage the only criterion to decide whether a human is good and worthy?Because if it is how do we explain suicide by someone who missed 100% by a few marks? We are running a blind race where getting into a top college and then getting selected by a company and a 6 digit salary seems to be the only goal of life.It is indeed a blind race, look at the people, thousands of them who are frustrated despite having good records,on paper at least. They are all victims of this blind race, let's have some pity on them!We don't have to be like them.Hence,I feel kind of isolated among people around me just because I like to question the path we follow, the goals we set.And people often make fun of me over that!

For me,the first teaching should be to develop a character which is overall good. The stains on the character should feel like being hit by a hot iron rod repeatedly, the feeling of shame should be induced in everyone right from childhood when it can be found in abundance. They say the first school is your home and hence it is imperative of the parents to impart such teachings to their children. Moreover it is the duty of the parents,in this modern age,to instill following values in their children:self confidence, differentiation of right from wrong and huge amount of moral education.I believe the moral education is terribly lacking in the modern scheme of study and people are hence engaged in ruthless competition with little or no regard for human values. How can it be acceptable that to earn some petty personal gain the guy is bypassing all standards of morality?Parents should be focusing on character with the schools being left to impart conceptual education etc in a cohesive way rather than in a competitive way.We have to understand the power of co operation and cohesion on one hand and the destruction caused by endless fierce competition enmity and jealousy on the other.

We set out in the society and its a pity how readily we discriminate between the so called educated ones and the downtrodden illiterate ones.Education,if it does not enable us to remove the problems of the society,if it does not enable us to rise above discrimination and live with co operation,if it does not teach us that all humans are equal irrespective of caste, gender, religion, ethnicity etc then such an education is useless. And if we have not learnt these things until now,the despite being educated we are no better than illiterate. We have wasted our parents and govt's investments on us,we have let down the expectation mother India has from us.

We all have to live in the society and hence it is necessary to understand the differences between individuals and adopt them so that there is no problem on the personal front as well as the social order is maintained Thus,it is necessary to be a sensible person vis a vis the society,a good person with tremendous self respect so that one can look at himself/herself in the mirror with dignity and the main thing,be content with whatever one has achieved. And if in the process of achieving the goals one should be relaxed.Looking forward to achieve our goals with a calm and unperturbed mind will provide peace and relaxation as well as we will have a confident state of mind.A concentrated mind is confident usually, hence importance should be laid towards concentration.

As I graduate from college,it is necessary for me to analyse what I've learnt so that I can use that knowledge for the betterment of people around me.Its a pity how families are in chaos despite having best of education.Sometimes I feel, education imparted by the institutions lags behind and there is a certain void which needs to be fulfilled if we have to live long, cheerfully happy lives. But,as we have devised way to tackle everything this too will be solved by ourselves only, and the time is just right.C'mon who does not want a happy and cheerful life!Ask anyone,he'd not like to be imprisoned by life like this. But then forced by ambition, propelled by greed and led by expectation,we students often blindfolded, fall into this trap and hence it is necessary for us to understand the futility of running this race with no winners.I mean its not bad to run at all, provided we are not blindfolded. We must know what we are doing and under no circumstances whatsoever, let anyone or any situation dictate terms to us,whatever is at stake.

NAGALAND: FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Not too many people have Nagaland in their bucket list. Uncomfortable roads, poor transport system and a lot of corruption are a few factors which contribute to it. Added to it the stories of still active insurgency, Nagaland although an extremely beautiful hill state doesn’t manage to have a lot of tourism going on except for the Hornbill festival in December every year. But, my case is slightly different. Affinity towards the culture of the entire North east, plus a desire to visit not to tourist frequented places made Nagaland a definite must go. So, when I got time and saved some money, I immediately planned a trip to the beautiful hilly state with my girlfriend. The Nagaland express Since, th is was my second trip towards the hills of the North east, I was more confident and familiar with the sytem than the previous time. We booked a filght to Guwahati and from there we took a train to Dimapur aptly named : The ”Nagaland Express”. This...

FIRST TRIP TO THE NORTH EAST-MIZORAM

Around 7 years ago during the final year of my school, I read a book about the various tribes of the north East India. Already fascinated by a place so serene, yet unexplored and heard stories of the people inhabiting those lands, the book generated in me a desire to visit the places as soon as possible. The author of that book visited the entire North East as a part of his assignment for All India Radio (AIR) during the 1970s and the way he described those tribes and the places, a strong desire arose inside of me to visit these places and see for myself how beautiful that land is, how well mannered those people are! It is aptly called the 'unexplored paradise' as I discovered. But the idea materialized only in March, when financially empowered by a scholarship from ISRO, and constantly motivated by my best friend (who could not resist travel, and hence accompanied me!), I planned to visit Mizoram. Why Mizoram? There is a particular thing about the mizos, and if asked com...

TRIP TO HARIDWAR AND RISHIKESH

A trip to places like Haridwar and Rishikesh is always a source of peace, joy and spirituality and when we went to these places this month, it was no different. We had some free time and I along with my two other friends decided to visit Haridwar as well as Rishikesh for a short 4 day trip.As I had spent my childhood in a nearby town, naturally these places were well travelled by me . Day-1:Bus to Haridwar We got up early in the morning,at around 0445,hurriedly got dressed up,called each other and ran off to the ISBT at kashmiri gate to catch an early bus to Haridwar.I was extremely careful to catch the bus as early as possible because of the traffic at the border growing up a few hours later. We expected to catch the bus at around 0700,but as it always happens,we were delayed by around 30 minutes and managed to board the bus as 0730.It was a smooth journey, early in the morning a lot of fresh air poured in,later as it was not too hot,we enjoyed riding the bus in the bri...
